COMPUTER SCIENCE Exploring Computers, Programming I

In Exploring Computers & Programming I will cover the following topics:

  • Programming using Scratch
  • Computer Hardware and Software (Students will build a computer)
  • Problem-solving using traditional computer science topics including binary, searching and sorting
  • Introduction to Robotics (VEX robots)


It is recommended students wishing to take advanced computer science classes complete both Exploring Computers & Programming I and Exploring Computers & Programming II. The Exploring Computers & Programming courses are for everyone, not just those that want to be “programmers”. This course is meant to introduce and explore computing and technology to all students. Exploring Computers & Programming is based on 6 main computer science topics Human Computer Interaction, Problem Solving, Web Design, Programming, Computing and Data Analysis and Robotics. The course was developed around a framework of both computer science content and computational practice. Assignments and instruction are socially relevant, practical and meaningful for students.
