Semester I is an introductory survey of American Literature. In this course students will explore various genres, authors, and literary movements in American Literature up to 1865. Students will further develop essay composition skills and oral and written argumentation skills. Students may be required to independently read one novel per quarter and present a book-talk/project to the class.Second trimester, students will continue to examine the lives and works of American authors and the literary movements in American Literature from 1860 up to contemporary literature. This course focuses on preparing students for the future by developing students’ critical reading and analytical writing abilities as well as oral communication skills. In addition, students may be required to independently read one novel per quarter from a college-bound recommended list and present a book-talk/project to the class.
