This course is a foundation course that is reading heavy and focuses on critical thinking skills with the following: reading short stories and making inferences supported with evidence; reading To Kill a Mockingbird and following theme development in the text; reading memoirs in literature circles while analyzing rhetorical strategies; writing a memoir focusing on creative writing skills; reading Romeo and Juliet and analyzing character development; reading Apple: Skin to the Core and studying Native American culture.
