ELA English 09

This course is required for all freshmen. Students participate in a variety of types of writing including informal everyday writing, narrative writing, and essay writing. The writing process is heavily emphasized as writing lengthy essays and assignments is very new to many high school students. Students also read a variety of texts individually, in small groups, and as a class, and report on what they have read through book reviews and brief presentations. Students in English 9 learn the foundation level skills needed to be successful throughout their high school career and beyond.
