This course is a higher-level alternative to fulfill the English 9 requirement. As with English 9, students participate in a variety of types of writing including informal everyday writing, narrative writing, and essay writing, as well as reading a variety of texts, though they do so with increased emphasis on literary analysis and quality writing. Students in Honors English 9 learn, use, and expand upon foundation level skills at an accelerated rate to match the rigor and challenge Honors students are ready for. Recommended for students planning to take Honors English 10, college prep English, students who plan to pursue college after high school, or strong readers and writers that want to challenge themselves and refine those skills. It is recommended that students consult with their current English teacher prior to registering for this course.
