This course is required for all sophomores. Students continue to build on the foundation level skills they learned in English 9 by continuing daily informal writing, narrative writing, and essay writing, but begin to learn more about writing for a variety of audiences as well as researching information needed to supplement and strengthen their writing. Students continue to read independently, in small groups, and as a class, and write book reviews as well as present on their thoughts. Additionally, presentations begin to extend to research and other learning. Reading skills are taken a step further in English 10 as students work on using reading strategies and resources to work through a difficult text. These additional skills encourage students to be aware of their audience in a variety of situations as well as develop an understanding of their own learning and thought processes.
