Contemporary Literature focuses on the voices, stories, and issues shaping the modern literary landscape. Students will examine a mix of novels, memoirs, plays, essays, and short fiction written primarily from the late 20th century to today. Students will examine how contemporary writers respond to current social, political, and cultural concerns—including identity, technology, mental health, justice, inequality, and the complexities of modern relationships.
Students will explore how storytelling has evolved in style, structure, and purpose in the contemporary era. The course encourages students to think critically about modern narratives, engage in rich discussions, and reflect on how literature helps us make sense of the world we live in now.
