FCS Assistant Child Care Teacher

Assistant Child Care Teacher course provide students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of children from birth through school age. Main topics include the fundamentals of working with students; providing healthy environments; evaluating child care settings; and examining the practices, regulations, and opportunities in the child care industry. Students taking this course will be required to complete observation time in a child care center. Students will learn developmentally appropriate activities; operation of a child care center; recognition of childhood diseases, abuse, and neglect; and first aid/emergency training.

This course is pending transcription credit with CVTC (3 credits). Students obtain the Assistant Child Care Teacher plus Infant and Toddler certificates. Those certificates allow for a 17 year old to work in a childcare center.

*Students must be 17 by the end of the course **Infant and Toddler must be a prerequisite.
