FCS-Culinary Arts 1

Do you want to explore and practice skills you will need for a future in foods and culinary management careers? Then Culinary Arts 1 is for you! This is the second level foods course after Family Foods (a pre-requisite). In our state-of-the-art Culinary kitchen space, you will explore some of the future-ready skills you will need for a career in the hospitality industry. You will learn skills in preparing and serving quality foods while keeping the kitchen staff safe from accidents and injuries. Keeping the customers safe from foodborne illness and other food safety hazards are also essential skills. You will learn how you can be a better leader through working with different types of people to create an efficient effective work environment. Profit is a huge consideration for any business, including hospitality, so you will also learn to figure and ways to control costs in a hospitality setting. You will be required to pass a nationally recognized and often-required food handler/manager certification with at least an 80% correct score. This credential is required for entry-level employees in most foodservice related occupations.
