Choir helps students discover their individual strengths and skills. This discovery provides building blocks that help students learn, continually improve, and appreciate music's important role in their lives. The goal is to teach students to embrace curiosity and continuous improvement, to feel welcomed and valued and also to know that maximum effort is expected, mistakes are welcomed, and individual growth is the measure used to define academic success.
The choir program at Independence High School forms a vital and important part of the total high school life. The choir represents a large, colorful, visible, and highly disciplined segment of the school.
The performance of the choir at concerts, festivals, sporting events, as well as other community events, adds a great deal of color and life to the Independence community. In the Independence High School choir students participate in large group rehearsals along with time for small group or individual lessons. Each is a critical part of the other. Emphasis will be on developing quality performances by implementing learning goals that are aligned to the four district reporting standards for music. These standards were developed from the Wisconsin State Standards for music. Academic achievement is the primary factor in grades and is defined as the student's ability to exhibit progress in his/her ability to perform tasks, demonstrate skills, and apply knowledge to real world problems and situation.
