Course Description: Requirements: Requirements: In 2011, the Wisconsin Legislature passed a law (section 118.33) which allows students who are participating in a sport to “opt-out” of ½ credit of physical education and substitute an additional credit (beyond what is required for graduation) in English, social studies, mathematics, science, or health education. That class must be taken the semester the student is opting out of PE. Arcadia’s policy is open to Juniors or Seniors who will be competing in a varsity or JV level sport during their Junior year or fall/winter of their senior year (spring sports during senior year do NOT apply). The athlete must complete the season in good standing and have been in the same sport the prior year to the chosen season. Therefore, the student must participate in the same sport for two consecutive years.
The “opt-out” request must be approved and verified by the PE department.
PE waiver application form needs to be submitted prior to the trimester the waiver is for.
