This class stresses the basic principles of genetics and patterns of inheritance. Genetics focuses on the study of the multiple factors involved in the transmission of traits. The course will include: independent lab work with fruit flies, pedigree analysis, determination of inheritance patterns, biotechnology studies and lab work, DNA extraction, restriction analysis of DNA, recombinant DNA labs, bacterial transduction, and roundtable discussion of current biotechnology breakthroughs and their significance to human life
