This one trimester course examines the beginning of early civilizations through the fall of the Roman Empire. Students will investigate the foundational ideas that shaped the ancient world in the geographical, social, religious, economic, and political foundations for early civilizations including the areas of Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome. This rigorous study of ancient history examines recurring themes, such as social history, democratic government, and the relationship between history and the arts, allowing students to draw connections between the past and the present, across cultures, and among multiple perspectives.
