Students taking this course will be introduced to the knowledge and skills necessary for entering the metalworking field, as well as to build and repair items at home or on the farm. A large portion of the curriculum will be devoted to the various methods and processes of welding (Oxy/Acetylene,MIG,Stick), along with learning the different metal cutting processes. Other topics may include blueprint reading, sheet metal work, precision measurement, and machine shop safety. Classroom time will be spent learning the science behind these methods, but a large portion of the class will be in the metals shop acquiring hands-on experience using the various processes. Basic math skills are a must for being successful in this course.

Los estudiantes que tomen este curso recibirán los conocimientos y habilidades necesarios para ingresar al campo de la metalurgia, así como para construir y reparar artículos en el hogar o en la granja. Una gran parte del plan de estudios se dedicará a los diversos métodos y procesos de soldadura (Oxy / Acetylene, MIG, Stick), junto con el aprendizaje de los diferentes procesos de corte de metales. Otros temas pueden incluir lectura de planos, trabajo de chapa, medición de precisión y seguridad en talleres mecánicos. Se dedicará tiempo en el aula a aprender la ciencia detrás de estos métodos, pero una gran parte de la clase estará en el taller de metales adquiriendo experiencia práctica utilizando los diversos procesos.
